Price update stream
A stock ticker is a device or display that shows stock prices and trading information in a continuous stream.
Originally an electromechanical machine that printed price updates on paper tape, it now refers to the scrolling displays on financial news channels and websites: She glanced at the stock ticker to check her portfolio.
The term also applies to the abbreviated letter symbols identifying traded securities—Apple's ticker is AAPL, for instance.
