steeplechasers
Water-jump track athletes
Steeplechasers are runners or horses competing in steeplechase races—courses with obstacles like hurdles, water jumps, and barriers.
In track and field, the 3000-meter steeplechase is the standard distance.
The term comes from early cross-country horse races that used church steeples as distant landmarks: The steeplechasers cleared the water jump in a tight pack.
