The phrase suggests that complacency is the enemy of continued growth—that one should remain as motivated as someone who hasn't yet "eaten." It gained wider currency from Steve Jobs's famous 2005 commencement speech borrowing the phrase "Stay hungry, stay foolish." He reminded himself to stay hungry despite his early wins.
