standing committees
Ongoing legislative groups
Standing committees are permanent legislative bodies that handle ongoing areas of responsibility—finance, judiciary, foreign affairs, and so on.
Unlike special or select committees formed for specific investigations, standing committees persist across legislative sessions and maintain jurisdiction over particular policy domains.
Most bills pass through a standing committee before reaching the full chamber for debate.
