special committees
Purpose-formed legislative groups
Special committees are temporary legislative bodies created to address specific matters that fall outside the scope of standing committees or require focused attention.
Unlike permanent committees, they dissolve once their assigned task—typically an investigation, study, or report—is completed.
Congress might form a special committee to investigate a scandal or examine a pressing policy question that crosses jurisdictional lines.
The special committee was convened to look into the intelligence failures leading up to the attack.
