Andromeda Galaxy
Our closest neighbor
The Andromeda Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years from Earth, the nearest major galaxy to our own Milky Way.
Visible to the naked eye as a faint smudge in the night sky, it contains roughly a trillion stars.
Astronomers expect it to collide with the Milky Way in about 4.5 billion years.
Also called M31 or the Andromeda Nebula.
