spatchcocked
Poultry pressed open
Spatchcocked describes poultry that has been split open by removing the backbone and flattening, allowing faster, more even cooking: a spatchcocked chicken on the grill.
The technique is also called butterflying.
Figuratively, to spatchcock something is to insert it awkwardly or interpolate it into an existing text: The committee spatchcocked amendments into the bill at the last minute.
