sound holes
Violin's curved vents
Sound holes are openings cut into the body of a stringed instrument—violins, guitars, lutes—that allow the resonating air inside to escape and project sound outward.
The f-shaped holes on violins are the most recognizable, but sound holes take various shapes: circular on lutes, rosettes on classical guitars.
Their placement and size affect the instrument's tone and volume.
