sound cards
PC music components
A sound card is a component that enables a computer to process audio—playing music, recording voice, generating system sounds.
Before sound was integrated into motherboards, sound cards were separate expansion cards that users installed themselves.
The term persists even for built-in audio hardware: My sound card drivers need updating.
