social buzz

Social buzz is the collective chatter, excitement, and attention surrounding something—a product launch, celebrity scandal, or viral moment.

The term draws from the hum of many voices talking at once.

Marketers actively cultivate social buzz: The campaign generated massive social buzz before the film even opened.

Without the modifier, buzz alone often carries the same meaning.
