snowblindness

Snow glare eye injury

Snowblindness is temporary vision impairment caused by intense sunlight reflecting off snow or ice.

The ultraviolet rays essentially sunburn the cornea, causing pain, watering, and sensitivity to light.

It typically resolves within a day or two.

Skiers and mountaineers wear dark goggles to prevent it.

Also spelled as two words: snow blindness.
