pull over

Cop's traffic command

To pull over is to steer a vehicle to the side of the road and stop, usually at someone's direction or to address something: The cop signaled me to pull over.

You might pull over to check a map, answer a phone call, or let a faster car pass.

A pullover is a sweater you pull over your head.
