snow monkeys
Japan's bathing apes
Snow monkeys are Japanese macaques, known for bathing in hot springs during winter.
The name comes from their habitat in snowy mountain regions of Japan, where they survive colder temperatures than any other primate except humans.
The snow monkeys soaking in the thermal pools have become a famous tourist attraction.
