smoke trail
Jet's visible wake
A smoke trail is the visible path of smoke left behind by something moving through air—typically an aircraft, rocket, or missile.
Skywriters leave deliberate smoke trails; missiles leave them as exhaust signatures.
The term also describes the wispy line rising from a cigarette or extinguished candle.
We watched the smoke trail arc across the sky.
