fixed path
Predetermined route taken
A fixed path is a predetermined route or course that cannot be altered.
The term appears in computing for file locations that don't change, in physics for constrained motion, and in planning for routes that follow a set sequence: The robot follows a fixed path through the warehouse.
Figuratively, it describes rigid approaches to life or work: She rejected the fixed path her parents had laid out for her.
