shop sign
Business name display
A shop sign is a display mounted on or near a business establishment identifying the shop and often its trade.
Traditionally these included painted boards, hanging signs, or carved symbols—a striped pole for barbers, a mortar and pestle for apothecaries.
Modern shop signs range from simple lettering to elaborate neon or digital displays: The old shop sign creaked in the wind.
