ye olde
Shoppe sign starter
Ye olde is a mock-archaic phrase used to give something a quaint, old-fashioned flavor: Ye Olde Gift Shoppe.
The "ye" is a misreading of an old spelling of "the" where the letter thorn (þ) was confused with Y.
Despite being historically inaccurate, the phrase persists on shop signs and in humorous references to anything pretending to be antique.
