ship's bridge
Captain's control room
The ship's bridge is the command center of a vessel, typically an enclosed platform near the top of the ship with windows offering a wide view of the surrounding waters.
From here, officers navigate, steer, and control the ship's operations: The captain ordered a course change from the bridge.
The name reflects older naval architecture when the structure literally bridged the vessel's width.
