sherd
Dig site find
A sherd is a broken piece of pottery or ceramic, especially one found at an archaeological site.
The word is a variant of shard, preferred in archaeological contexts: The dig yielded hundreds of sherds from the Bronze Age.
Outside archaeology, shard is more common.
