shape poem

Contoured literary composition

A shape poem is a poem arranged on the page so that its visual form reflects its subject—a poem about a tree shaped like a tree, a poem about rain with words dripping down the page.

Also called concrete poetry, though that term encompasses more experimental visual arrangements.

The children wrote shape poems about animals.
