servicepeople

Armed forces members

Servicepeople is a gender-neutral term for members of the armed forces.

It replaces the traditional *servicemen* to include women serving in military roles: Servicepeople returning from deployment face unique challenges.

The singular *serviceperson* exists but sounds awkward; *service member* is often preferred for individuals.
