self-exclusion

Choosing to abstain

Self-exclusion is voluntarily banning yourself from something, most often gambling venues or online betting sites.

Someone who recognizes a gambling problem can request self-exclusion, which legally bars them from entering casinos or accessing their accounts for a set period: After losing his savings, he signed up for the casino's self-exclusion program.

The term appears in other addiction contexts as well.
