stack trace

Call history printout

A stack trace is a report showing the sequence of function calls that led to an error in a computer program.

When code crashes, the stack trace lists each function that was active, from the point of failure back to the program's starting point.

Developers use stack traces to diagnose bugs by tracing exactly where things went wrong: The stack trace showed the null pointer exception originated in the database module.
