nereid
Daughter of Doris
A nereid is any marine bristle worm of the family Nereididae, found in coastal waters worldwide.
These segmented worms have paddle-like appendages along their bodies and are commonly used as fishing bait.
The name comes from the sea nymphs of Greek mythology.
The nereid burrowed into the sandy bottom. (Capitalized Nereid refers to the mythological nymphs or a moon of Neptune.)
