screen-saver
Monitor's sleep mode
A screen-saver is a program that displays moving images or patterns on a computer monitor after a period of inactivity.
Originally designed to prevent burn-in on older CRT monitors—where static images could leave permanent marks—screen-savers became a form of personalization and entertainment: He has flying toasters as his screen-saver.
Modern displays rarely need this protection, but screen-savers persist as decoration or security measures that require a password to dismiss.
