scratchers

Coin-revealed prize games

Scratchers are lottery tickets you play by scratching off an opaque coating to reveal symbols or numbers underneath: I bought a few scratchers at the gas station.

The term is informal and primarily American.

More broadly, anything that scratches—a back scratcher, a pet scratching at the door—can be called a scratcher.
