schoolyards
Campus outdoor spaces
Schoolyards are the outdoor areas of schools where children play during recess and before or after classes.
The word evokes childhood games, social hierarchies, and the rough-and-tumble of growing up: schoolyard bullies, schoolyard taunts.
As a modifier, schoolyard often suggests something juvenile or unsophisticated: schoolyard insults, schoolyard romance.
