A scene break is a visual marker in written fiction indicating a shift in time, location, or viewpoint within a chapter.
Typically rendered as blank space, a row of asterisks, or a decorative symbol, scene breaks signal discontinuity without starting a new chapter: She added a scene break before jumping ahead three days.
