salmonellae
Gut infection culprits
Salmonellae is the plural of salmonella, rod-shaped bacteria that cause food poisoning and typhoid fever.
The plural follows Latin convention, though *salmonellas* also appears.
Most encounters are in technical or medical contexts: The lab identified salmonellae in the contaminated eggs.
Named for American veterinarian Daniel Salmon.
