safehouses
Covert operative lodgings
Safehouses are secure locations where people can hide or take refuge—used by intelligence agencies to shelter operatives, by law enforcement to protect witnesses, or by criminal organizations to conduct business away from surveillance.
The term also applies to locations in underground networks: abolitionists ran safehouses along the Underground Railroad, activists maintained safehouses for refugees.
Often written as two words: safe houses.
