rusticated
Banished to countryside
Rusticated describes someone sent away from a city to live in the country, often as a form of exile or punishment.
At British universities, to be rusticated is to be temporarily suspended—sent home to the provinces.
In architecture, rusticated stonework has deeply recessed joints and rough-hewn surfaces, giving buildings a rugged, rural character: the rusticated base of the palazzo.
