rudeboy

Jamaican street youth

Rudeboy (also rude boy) originated in 1960s Jamaica to describe young men associated with ska and rocksteady music scenes, often characterized by sharp suits, porkpie hats, and sometimes rebellious or criminal behavior.

The term was later adopted by British ska revival and two-tone movements in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Today it can simply mean someone who follows Jamaican-influenced music culture or dresses in that style, though it still carries connotations of street toughness.

He showed up looking like a proper rudeboy in his trilby and braces.
