royal exile
Ousted monarch abroad
Royal exile is the banishment or forced departure of a monarch, royal family member, or entire dynasty from their kingdom.
Unlike ordinary exile, it carries the weight of fallen majesty—a king without a throne, a prince without a country: The revolution sent the royal family into exile in Switzerland.
The phrase also describes the person themselves: He lived as a royal exile in Paris for thirty years.
