route-march
Soldiers' training walk
A route-march is a long training march for troops, typically covering substantial distance at a steady pace while carrying full equipment.
Unlike parade marching, soldiers walk in a relaxed formation rather than in step: The recruits completed a twenty-mile route-march through rough terrain.
The term extends to any long, arduous walk.
