rotatory

Going in circles

Rotatory means relating to or producing rotation.

The word appears in technical contexts—anatomy, engineering, physics—where rotary would serve equally well: rotatory motion, rotatory movement of the hip joint.

Rotatory is the less common choice in modern usage.
