rope teams
Tethered mountaineering parties
Rope teams are groups of climbers tied together by a safety rope, typically when crossing glaciers or ascending steep terrain where a fall could be fatal.
If one climber slips, the others can arrest the fall.
The term extends metaphorically to any group bound together for mutual protection: The senator and his rope team of loyal staffers weathered the scandal together.
