rookie league
Entry-level professional competition
Rookie league is the lowest level of minor league baseball, where newly drafted and signed players begin their professional careers.
Teams play shortened seasons with simplified schedules, focusing on player development rather than competitive standings.
The term extends to any entry-level tier in sports or other hierarchical systems: He's still in the rookie league when it comes to sales.
