robberies
Armed holdups, perhaps
Robberies is the plural of robbery—the crime of taking property from someone through force or threat of force.
Unlike burglary or theft, robbery requires direct confrontation with a victim: The string of armed robberies terrorized the neighborhood.
The word also appears in figurative complaints about excessive prices: These gas prices are highway robbery.
