rifled barrel
Spun projectile tube
A rifled barrel has spiral grooves cut into its interior, causing a bullet to spin as it travels through.
The spin stabilizes the projectile in flight, dramatically improving accuracy over smooth-bore barrels.
Most modern firearms—handguns, rifles, and many shotguns—use rifled barrels: The forensic team matched the striations to the rifled barrel of the suspect's gun.
