revues
Sketch-and-song productions
Revues are theatrical productions featuring a series of unconnected musical numbers, sketches, and dances, typically satirical or topical in nature.
Unlike musicals with continuous plots, revues string together variety acts around a loose theme: Broadway revues of the 1920s showcased popular songwriters.
The format survives in cabaret and sketch comedy.
