march past
Troops on display
A march past is a formal military ceremony in which troops parade before a reviewing officer or dignitary, marching in formation as a display of discipline and respect.
The term functions as both noun and verb: soldiers march past the general, or spectators watch the march past.
It is primarily British usage; Americans more often say pass in review.
