reskins
New visual overlays
Reskins are modified versions of video games, apps, or other software that replace visual elements—characters, backgrounds, icons—while keeping the underlying code and mechanics intact.
A company might reskin its hit game with seasonal themes, or a developer might reskin someone else's successful app to create a quick knockoff.
The app store is flooded with reskins of popular puzzle games.
The term extends to any superficial makeover that doesn't change fundamental structure.
