resaca

Abandoned river channel

Resaca is a term used in the American Southwest, especially Texas, for an oxbow lake or dry channel left when a river changes course.

These crescent-shaped bodies of water or depressions mark where a bend once flowed.

In Spanish-speaking regions, resaca also means hangover—the rough aftermath of drinking.
