relocation centers
Forced housing sites
Relocation centers is the euphemism the U.S. government used for the camps where Japanese Americans were forcibly detained during World War II.
The term obscures the reality: these were prison camps surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards, holding over 120,000 people—most of them American citizens—without trial or due process.
Executive Order 9066 authorized the relocation centers.
