Japanese Canadians
Canadian Nikkei community
Japanese Canadians are Canadians of Japanese ancestry.
The term carries particular historical weight due to the internment of approximately 22,000 Japanese Canadians during World War II, when they were forcibly relocated from the British Columbia coast and had their property confiscated.
Japanese Canadians received a formal government apology and redress in 1988.
