reedbeds

Tall grass marshlands

Reedbeds are dense stands of tall reeds growing in shallow water or marshy ground.

They form important wetland habitats, sheltering birds and filtering water.

The word appears mainly in British English and ecological contexts: Bitterns nest in the reedbeds along the Norfolk coast.

Also spelled as two words: reed beds.
