A redliner is someone who pushes an engine to its maximum RPM, where the tachometer enters the red zone: He's a redliner who treats every stoplight like a drag race.
The term extends to anyone who operates at extreme limits—working until exhaustion, spending to the edge of bankruptcy, or generally living without margins for error.
