recovery shot
Trouble-extraction golf swing
A recovery shot is a stroke in golf played to get back into a favorable position after a bad lie or errant shot.
When a ball lands in the rough, behind trees, or in a bunker, the recovery shot aims to return it to the fairway or green: He hit a brilliant recovery shot from behind the oak tree.
The term extends to other sports where a player must compensate for a mistake or difficult situation.
