reception rooms
Formal entertaining areas
Reception rooms are the formal spaces in a house where guests are received and entertained—typically living rooms, dining rooms, and parlors as distinguished from bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.
The term appears most often in British real estate listings: a four-bedroom house with two reception rooms.
In American usage, a reception room may also be a waiting area in an office or professional building.
