raw sienna

Brownish-yellow pigment

Raw sienna is a yellowish-brown earth pigment used in painting, named for the Italian city of Siena where it was originally mined.

The color is warm and muted, somewhere between ochre and brown. "Raw" distinguishes the natural pigment from burnt sienna, which is darker and more reddish after heating: She mixed raw sienna with white for the highlights.
